Five years ago, #Atlanta experienced a snow storm that no one was prepared for. The chaos, often referred to as the “Snowpocalypse,” was a true test for those in and around Atlanta. When the snow started falling, the interstates became jammed with cars trying to reach home. Schools released their students early and many offices closed. Although Atlanta has not experienced such state of emergency since January of 2014, it definitely taught the community to be prepared for the worst.
There are a few key things you can do to ensure that you are prepared for possible winter weather:
Check current and future forecasts so that you are aware of the potential conditions ahead.
If possible, stay home when winter weather is predicted.
Keep your gas tank full.
Keep a car charger so that your phone can always be charged and you can reach your loved ones.
Have a winter emergency kit in your car at all times. We have listed a few key items below.
Winter Emergency Kit:
Food – keep food that won’t spoil, such as crackers, granola bars, etc. in case you become stranded in your vehicle.
Water – keeping water on hand is extremely important because your body dehydrates faster in the winter.
Blankets – one of the most important things you can do for yourself in the case of being stranded is keeping yourself warm.
Jumper Cables – in the event that your car battery dies, jumper cables can relieve the situation.
Road Flares – these are always important to have on hand so that you can be easily spotted by emergency personnel.
Flashlight + Extra Batteries
